The Poker Club's founder, George Kilby Jr. leads the band with the dynamic Lily White on vocals and saxophones. Lily's combination of effervescence and virtuosity added to George's delivery and entertaining prescence always has the audience jumping.

The inspiration for the band comes from the late pianist and drummer
Howie Wyeth. In addition to working with Bob Dylan, Howie became famous
as New York's most celebrated performer of the "stride" style.
When Howie heard George do Fats Waller, he became Howie's featured
singer; and they had residency gigs at NYC institutions like the Red
Blazer and Fannie's Oyster Bar. Howie left us in '94, but his spiritand
the music live on in The Poker Club.
The music itself is a mix of lots of great Americana. It revives the classic sound of artists like Fats Waller, Nat King Cole, Louis Jordan, even Patsy Cline, plus many more. Therepertoire and the cutting edge attitude of the players give the music a fresh and interpretive
spin. The band is made up of top-shelf New York players who can boast
of playing with names like Jimmy McGriff, Lonnie Smith, Martha and
the Vandellas, James Moody and Jack McDuff.
Please contact the The Downtown Poker Club for all occasions where great American music is appreciated and where folks like to dance! The talent and energy of the band always makes a success of the event - from hole in the wall jazz dives to black tie.
